The history of the Breton Bay Civic Association (BBCA) is a story of neighbors working together. Over the years, we have grown from a group focused on rules and utilities into a community-driven social organization that cares for our beautiful neighborhood.
The BBCA was officially started in 1978 when our neighborhood's original plan was approved by the county. In those early days, our work was very technical. We were created to manage the large systems that kept the neighborhood running and to make sure our shared green spaces were protected forever.
For many years, the Association had the big job of managing major infrastructure, like our community's water system.
A major milestone in our history happened around late 2020 and early 2021. We successfully moved those big utility responsibilities over to the county’s utility company, MetCom. This was a huge win because it allowed the Association to step away from "business" tasks and get back to what we love: focusing on our neighbors and our land.
One thing has never changed: our commitment to keeping Breton Bay beautiful. Through our original neighborhood rules, the BBCA took ownership and responsibility for key pieces of land.
Today, the Association owns and protects over 15.5 acres of land for all of us to enjoy:
The Society Hill Green Spaces: We care for a large 12.8-acre natural area and several smaller lots (1, 2) that keep our neighborhood feeling open and peaceful.
The BBCA Beach & Pavilion: This is our community's favorite gathering spot for sunsets, swimming, and summer fun.
Today, the BBCA has evolved into a community-driven organization. While we still take our job as land protectors seriously, our main goal is building a sense of belonging.
We have shifted our energy toward:
Social Gatherings: Hosting events that bring neighbors together.
Caring for Our Property: Making sure our 15.5 acres of community space are clean and safe for everyone.
Preserving Our Way of Life: Ensuring Breton Bay remains the friendly, beautiful place we all fell in love with.
By taking care of our land and hosting events for our families, the BBCA continues to honor the promise we made in 1978—to keep Breton Bay a wonderful place to call home.
